Voter Information on Proposition 44

LACYD has joined a broad coalition of patients, healthcare providers, community leaders and more in opposing Proposition 44, a dangerous statewide ballot measure that will harm millions of patients by shutting down hundreds of community health clinics across the state and forcing clinics to cut back on vital patient services. 

About Proposition 44:

• Cuts $1.7 billion from California's community health clinics in the first year and billions thereafter
• Forces community health clinics to cut vital patient services or shut down entirely, leaving millions of patients with reduced access to care
• Millions of patients will lose access to care and end up in hospital emergency rooms for routine care, resulting in more emergency room overcrowding, longer wait times and billions of dollars in higher costs for everyone
• Opposed by a broad and growing coalition of patients, doctors, nurses, more than 1,000 community health clinics, and nearly 100 organizations representing patients, doctors, nurses, providers, community leaders and leading healthcare organizations

We encourage LACYD members and supporters to stand with us in opposing Proposition 44 this November. Together, we can protect access to care for millions of patients and the community health clinics communities across the state rely on. 

Statement on Cesar Chavez

LACYD is horrified by the accounts of sexual abuse Cesar Chavez inflicted on Dolores Huerta, Ana Murguia, Debra Rojas, and others – a grotesque betrayal of the trust and power he held.

We stand unequivocally with them and with every survivor of sexual violence – those who have spoken out and those who have not. 

The farmworkers movement's achievements belong to the countless workers, organizers, and leaders who made extraordinary sacrifices to win dignity and justice for working people across our nation.

We join the calls to rename our March public holiday to appropriately honor their legacy and recognize the work ahead.

Statement on US Military Action in Iran

LACYD condemns the Trump administration's illegal military assault on Iran – an act of war launched without Congressional authorization.

As Americans struggle to afford healthcare, housing, education, and basic necessities, we refuse to let this administration drag us into a catastrophic foreign war that does nothing to help our people.

Trump's flippant suggestion that American lives may be lost is an insult to the young people who will, as always, be the ones sent to fight and die.

We stand against oppressive regimes everywhere, including Iran's – but that does not justify a reckless escalation that makes America and our allies less safe.
